Taekwondo (TKD) is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts that teaches more than physical fighting skills.

Hapkido is another style of Korean martial arts that focuses its techniques on self defense applications.

GumDo is the traditional, time-honored Korean art of the sword. It includes training for both the mind and body, which function as one with the weapons as an extension of the student’s body..

“Does Dae Han Martial Arts teach Karate?”

Most parents without prior Martial Arts experience will google ‘karate for kids’ when searching for the best local training facility. Because of the popularity of The Karate Kid movies, the term ‘Karate’ is now used in the States in reference to most Asian styles of Martial Arts. However, there are some major differences between the practice and origins in the main strains of Martial Arts in America.

“While Karate focuses mainly on hand techniques, Tae Kwon Do is 80% kicks. A kick can reach farther than a punch and, at a minimum, is three time more powerful. Also, because legs are a much larger muscle group than the arms, you experience a superior full-body workout when training in Tae Kwon Do.”

Every art taught at Dae Han is pure Korean Arts. Master Seo holds high level black belts in Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do, Gum Do (swords), Kyuk Too Ki (Kickboxing), and Sib Pal Ki (weapons); all of which were learned/certified in South Korea. Other common Martial Arts you may hear in the States include Karate and Judo/Jujitsu (Japanese), Kung Fu and Tai Chi (Chinese), and so on.

America is called ‘the melting pot’ and this applies to Martial Arts as well. Many instructors tend to mix various elements from the arts they have learned/experienced and resulting curriculum tends to be somewhat muddled. Here at Dae Han we pride ourselves in maintaining a pure curriculum in each art we teach. Thereby putting the ‘quality’ in our motto: Improving the Quality of Life.
